ASAP: The Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP)
The Departmentof English is Co-ordinating the ASAP programme of the Govt. of Kerala, in the college.
The 21-day ASAP-CET residential training programme for the year 2017 commenced on April 24 with an intake of 27 students from various colleges across Kozhikode district. The college moved into the fifth year of ASAP which is an initiative of the Government of Kerala to improve the employability quotient of students studying in Arts and Science colleges. The programme concentrates on the four areas of the trainees such as language skills, trainer skills, soft skills and ICT skills. The sessions were handled by Ms.BinduAmat, Ms. Elizabeth Antony (Dept of English), Ms. Anjali C.K (Dept of TTM), Ms. Manjusha K.K and Ms. Jisha K (Dept of Computer Science). The programme ended on May 13 with the students taking the online test APTIS conducted by the British Council.
The Dept. of Languages organised a Lecture Series on Indian Language Computing on 11.7.2017
A One Day National Seminar on “Nadakam, Arangu, Sthree” was organised by the Department of Languages on 21.7. 2017. The Book Release of Dr. Sr. Ashmitha A.C., Assistant Professor Department of Malayalam took place on the same day.
A Seminar on Indian Capital Market and its Regulatory Frameworks was organised on 28th June 2017 by the Department of Commerce
A One Day Seminar on “Malaria Eradication” was organised by the Department of Zoology on July 14, 2017. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. A. Ashadevi, District Medical Officer-in charge.
The sessions were handled by
- Mr. Prakash Kumar K.- District Malaria Officer who took class on “Clinical Feature of Vector Borne Disease’
- Mr. H.I. Baburaj- Health Inspector who took class on ‘Malarial prevention and Control Measure’
- Mr. Santhosh Kumar P.A.-District Educational Mass media Officer who took class on ‘Malarial Outbreak in the City’.
On June 5, 2017, the students of the Department of Zoology visited Sellera- home for the aged, as a part of environment day celebrations and planted saplings of fruit bearing trees such as mango, jack, Guava and Jamun in the premises.
On June 14th, International Blood donor’s day was observed by conducting a poster exhibition, depicting the science and moral implications of blood grouping, blood banks and blood transfusion.
The PG students of the Department of Computer Science released a journal “BOOT” (Best of Outstanding Technology) which contains 11 papers on the latest technologies in Computer Science.

An Inter Departmental Paper Presentation Competition was conducted by Dept. of Mathematics on 19.7.2017 in connection with World Population Day
The Department of English organised a talk by Dr. Sanghita Sen, St.Andrews University, Scotland, on 27.7.2017
PG Students’ National Seminar on Mythologies was organised by the Postgraduate students of the Department of English on 16/3/2017. The Keynote speaker was Dr. K. Arunlal, Faculty, Govt. College, Mokeri. 15 papers were presented by students of various colleges.
The Department of English organized a Talk cum Screening of Documentaries by Dr. Madhumitha Sinha, Reader, EFLU, Hyderabad on “Gender and Documentary Films”, on 17/2/2017.

A Class on Academic Writing led by Prof. Bhaskaran Nayar, former Faculty, Lincoln University, UK, was organised by the Department of English for the UG and PG final year students on 21/6/2016.
The Energy & Environment Club & Physics Association organised a Seminar on ‘Energy Conservation – Nature Conservation’ in collaboration with EMC (Energy Management Centre – Govt. Of Kerala) on 14th December 2016
A Three day National Workshop on Experimental Physics was conducted by the Department of English in collaboration with APT from 10th – 12th December 2016
A Two day workshop on X-Ray Astronomy & Astronomical Data Analysis was conducted by the Department of Physics in collaboration with IUCAA, PUNE and Academy of Physics Teachers (APT) from 19-20 November, 2016.
The Department of Psychology conducted a discussion on the topic “Why should Children be made the Victims of Elderly Aggression?” on June 13th. The purpose was to acknowledge the pain suffered by children who become victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.
On 9th November 2016, the Department of Psychology organised a One Day Seminar on “Social Media and Mental Health” in collaboration with IACP- Malabar Chapter. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Collector Ms. Shamin Sebastian and Sub Judge R. L Baiju accompanied her. Key speakers from different institutions engaged the various sessions of the Seminar. Students from different colleges participated in the seminar. Several competitions like poster presentation and quiz were organized by the department for the participants. A poster exhibition ‘ORENDA EXPO’ was conducted in the college auditorium on the same day. The posters prepared by participants from other colleges were also included in the expo..
The Department of Business Administration organised a talk on “Logistics Management” on 17th July 2017. Renowned speaker Mr.Rajeesh Raghavan engaged the session.
An Inter-Departmental Debate Competition was also organised by the Department of Business Administration on the topic “Is G.S.T a Game Changer Or A Spoiler” on 29th July 2017.
The Department of Political Science organised an Essay competition in connection with International Women’s Day 2016.
An Exhibition on different topics and areas like flags, coins, stamps of different Nations, calendars with important national days, women empowerment, constitutional development in India, contemporary issues in politics and the election process in India was held on 11th March 2016.
